“Knowing that the world is on pause, I’m creating like I haven’t in a while. So many things that occupied my time are now dedicated to creating, just for the sake of it.”

— Virginia, Barcelona, Spain

“As someone with high anxiety and considered to be an essential worker, art is keeping me sane. Whether it be photography or writing, I’m clinging to my art like wreckage in a storm.”

“I’ve been starting to see beautiful scenes and objects around my house. The main thing is to look for harsh light where I can create an interesting image with dark shadows.”

— Omar, Nashville, Tennessee

“Since the first day of lockdown here in Spain, I’ve taken one photograph each day as a creative exercise, and to keep my mind thinking in a positive way. I think this will be a ‘nice’ way to remember these odd days.”

“I’ve been looking inward for inspiration now more than ever. I’m taking deeper looks at corners in my house, noticing things that were always there but never made it to my attention radar.”

“I always felt that creative expression was for those who had the means to go to cool places, see great things, and capture them. However, being at home during this time has given me the benefit of making creative things in my own area. I know when the best light will happen, or when the flowers are blooming.”

“Creativity has always helped me through solitude. This is no exception.”

“Making art indoors has forced me to be more creative and impractical with my techniques. It’s helped introduce some new perspectives I otherwise wouldn’t get anywhere else.”

— Michael, Tennessee

“It’s all about the routine. I get my coffee daily at 11:45, and take some photographs in an eerily silent café. Just one barista stands behind the counter — but it’s connection. Coffee and cameras, they beat the silence of quarantine.”

— Chris, Grand Rapids, Michigan

“Creativity has allowed me to find comfort and stability in a time where I don’t really know what’s going on. It’s weird, but being stuck at home has forced me to look at my surroundings and see the beauty in familiarity. It’s given me an outlet where I know I’ll feel both safe and challenged at the same time.”
