VSCO Montage is a multimedia creation tool that brings the layers of your visual storytelling to life in a new, dynamic way.

As the world slows down, we know that these times can feel difficult and uncertain. With stories continuing to unfold, we hope our community connects you with others around the world who are documenting their realities and expressing themselves. We also hope that you keep making and sharing your perspective with VSCO Montage, the newest video storytelling tool included with membership.

Make moving collages and learn how you can bring the layers of your story to life by combining videos, images, and shapes. Discover new ways to express yourself and unite moments — big and small, past to present — with the photos and videos you capture every day.

VSCO Montage offers a blank canvas for your creativity and limitless options for self-expression. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the diverse perspectives and stories that make you, you.

How to make your own VSCO Montage

Show your layers

Use VSCO Montage to create moving collages with multiple scenes. Combine images and videos to make surreal multiple exposures, or overlay shapes to create colorful gel tints.

To start, select an aspect ratio as your canvas (portrait, square, or landscape). From there, you can begin adding multiple photos and videos from your camera roll to create scenes.

Layers are the elements you bring together to make your VSCO Montage — the videos and images you already have, as well as the shapes that you can add into the mix.

You can scale or crop any media layer, as well as copy and paste layers within and across scenes.

Go back in your Studio to start uniting different compositions — close up and far away, minimal and complex, or dark and bright.

Scene by scene

Each VSCO Montage can be made up of multiple “scenes” stitched together. Use scenes to bring your layers to life and turn them into a moving collage.

If you have a scene you like and you’re not sure how to start your next one, try duplicating it. From there, you can replace images and videos with new ones, or make subtle changes to your composition.

If you have multiple scenes and want to adjust the order, just drag to rearrange the sequence of your VSCO Montage. Experiment with scenes to make simple slideshows or creatively juxtapose images and videos.

Have fun with it by adding in different colors and shapes to create a moving collage effect.

Adjust the opacity

VSCO Montage lets you easily create multiple exposures by layering videos and images. You can also adjust the opacity of any image layer, enabling you to create a variety of customized gel colors and double exposures.

Place two or more pieces of media directly on top of each other, and then use the Opacity tool to adjust the top layers and let the images or videos beneath show through.

This approach works particularly well with compositions that feature well-defined shadows or subjects, like silhouettes, or more minimal compositions that focus on texture or pattern.

Rotate and flip

Rotate layers or use the Flip and Mirror layer tools to turn things upside down or side to side. Use Flip to defy gravity in action shots or to create landscapes from another universe.

Try experimenting with Mirror by copying and pasting a layer, then mirroring it next to the original. When repeated across scenes, this can create an eye-catching pattern.
