Create Your Shader to Win Up to $1000 — V Hackathon
In collaboration with Gamedev.js
Create your unique Shader (<16kb), publish it on the V Systems blockchain as an NFT, and be one of the 16 winners of $500-$1000!
At V Systems, we are dedicated to fostering innovation in blockchain development by providing a platform for developers to push the boundaries of decentralized applications. As part of this mission, we are thrilled to introduce the V Systems Shaders Hackathon (13 April — 8 May), a global competition where developers will create original on-chain shaders, blending the power of blockchain, WebGL, and NFT technology to unlock new creative possibilities.
Unlike traditional shader competitions, all shader projects will have to be uploaded onto the V Systems blockchain, ensuring decentralization, transparency, and immutability. The projects will be displayed on the V Systems Marketplace, an NFT Marketplace to trade NFTs created on the V Systems blockchain.
This four-week event is a celebration of coding, artistry, and blockchain innovation. If you’re passionate about shader programming, WebGL, and NFTs, this is your chance to showcase your skills, compete for prizes, and connect with other talented developers!
How does it work
- Code your original shader following one of the four theme tracks (see below)
- Compile it into a binary format
- Publish it on the V Systems blockchain with our one-mint tool
- Be one of the 16 winners of prizes ranging $500-$1000!
Schedule
- Hackathon Kickoff: 13 April 2025 at 5 pm (GMT+8).
- Submission Deadline: 8 May 2025, at 5 PM (GMT+8) (EXTENDED)
- Winner Announcement: End of May
Prizes
Juicy rewards will be up for grabs, with a total of 16 winners (four for each one of the four theme track), with prizes ranging between $500 and $1000:
- Top Prize: $1000
- Best Visuals: $750
- Best Tech: $750
- Community Vote: $500
The total prize pool amounts to $12,000.
Please note that we will only consider projects submitted via the Hackathon Portal between April 13 and May 8. Rewards will be distributed in USDT and VSYS tokens (70/30).
How to join the V Hackathon
STEP 1
Check out the Hackathon’s four theme tracks:
- Blockchain 🔗
- V Systems brand colors 🟠 ⚫ ⚪
- Cassette futurism 📼
- Digital world 🌐
STEP 2
Create unique Shader art in WebGL
Create your original Shader following one of the four theme tracks.
Not familiar with WebGL? This is your opportunity to learn!
- See the recap of the Shader workshop held with web developer Ksenia Kondrashova
- See our tech resources
Do not copy/plagarize/AI-generate your Shader’s code — our judges will know!
STEP 3
Turn your Shader into a binary code & publish it on our V Systems blockchain (detailed tutorial)
- Follow our tutorial (Steps 1–7) to create and compile your Shader
- Upload it to the V Systems blockchain following the tutorial (Step 8)
- Keep the compiled file smaller than 16kb
STEP 4
Submit your Shader for review
- Fill out the form at hackathon.v.systems/submit to submit your project for review
- Provide essential project details, including relevant code repositories
- Check out the tutorial (STEP 9) for more information
STEP 5
Evaluation and Judging
A panel of expert judges, including web developers and Shader specialists will evaluate submissions based on creativity, efficiency, execution, and technical innovation:
- Ksenia Kondrashova — Creative Web Developer
- Kostiantyn Mysnyk — Computer Graphics Expert
- Igor Malovytsia — Computer Graphics Expert
- Remi Tran — Coder & Cartographer
The four judges are independent developers not affiliated with V Systems to ensure absolute objectivity and impartiality.
Wait for the winner announcement at the end of May to discover if you’re one of the 16 winners!
More about the Hackathon
This Hackathon challenges developers, artists, and blockchain enthusiasts to push creative and technical boundaries by transforming Shaders into NFTs on the V Systems chain.
Shaders — dynamic, real-time rendering programs — have long been used in gaming, animation, and interactive media. Now, with the power of blockchain, we’re taking them to the next level by minting them as NFTs, enabling true ownership, provenance, and decentralized trading.
Participants will explore V Systems’ high-performance blockchain, leveraging its unique NFT framework to tokenize and distribute Shaders in innovative ways. Whether you’re a shader artist, a game developer, or a WebGL expert, this is your chance to build, experiment, and redefine digital ownership in the Web3 space.
V Hackathon: Retro Going Forward!
You’ve probably noticed our hackathon website feels like it came straight out of the early internet days — and that’s intentional.
Our blockchain was founded by Sunny King, the creator of the Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism — the system now used by Ethereum and most modern blockchains for its eco-friendly alternative to Bitcoin’s energy-intensive Proof of Work.
But V Systems isn’t just about blockchain infrastructure — we also help traditional industries adopt blockchain for greater efficiency. With enterprise projects across Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, we’re working on real-world blockchain adoption beyond just crypto hype.
So, we thought: Why not blend these ideas?
💾 A nostalgic, retro aesthetic — because today’s cutting-edge tech will one day feel vintage.
🖥️ Complex graphics and NFTs — because Shaders push the boundaries of visual computing.
🕹️ We simply like it! — because, let’s be honest, retro web aesthetics are cool.
Pushing Blockchain Graphics to New Heights
The Hackathon is hosted in collaboration with a long-standing community of developers that has been running hackathons since the early 2010s — Gamedev.js!
Our partnership with Gamedev.js represents a groundbreaking step in merging blockchain technology with high-performance graphics. By enabling developers to experiment with on-chain Shaders, we aim to unlock new frontiers in decentralized gaming, digital art, and next-generation visual applications.
Mark your calendars for 13 April and 8 May 2025 and get ready to unleash your creativity!
