Social-Media Hates New Creators.
This Story too shall be ignored.
Disclaimer: This article is not a Rant and has good memes. Enjoy.
The world of content creators is truly amazing.
They get to interact with millions of people online, build a community and have a job we all aspire to have.
They hold the gauntlet of being creative and out-box. And rack numbers that help sustain their life of adventure.
Oh, wait…
Let me re-frame it.
They re-invent the wheel every time while the algorithm blesses them with sweet sweet numbers.
As harsh as it gets, they are actually not doing anything wrong from their perspective
The thing is Originality and Views don’t go hand in hand.
The internet doesn’t know you personally.
“It doesn’t know that the one-minute B-roll you shot took 48 hours.
It doesn’t know, you had to read the entire trilogy of Lord of Rings again just to write a blog post.
Hell, It doesn’t even know if you are bot mass uploading or not.” -Ruthless WWW
Often you need to sacrifice your one-of-a-kind, creative ideas for mundane click-bait ones. For a full-time creator, it’s a necessity rather than a creative space.
And from this, the vicious cycle of the copy of a copy begins.
But, Is it the entire mistake of the creator and the content consumers.
The short answer is no.
The biggest issue is with the “Holy algorithm” itself.
ANSWER TO THE ALGORITHM
For a layman to understand this, let us imagine a scenario.
The Internet as a friend in your close circle who is a big movie buff.
You ask the Internet to suggest some good action movies. He will then recall his top-rated movie or ask his close ones about it. On getting to a conclusion he will convey you the suggestion.
And voila, this is how basically your recommendation page is filled.
In the real world scenario, the Internet almost does the same, whenever someone asks for a recommendation, they give back results that are already trusted by it.
These trusted materials are generally things that already in popularity and good at retaining the audience.
Be it the trend of the time, or the hottest cryptocurrency on Reddit. The internet will only push things to your feed which it perceives as successful in grabbing your attention span.
SEO GAME
You must have heard at least once that the higher the SEO Rank the better your content or website will perform.
If you have even a basic SEO understanding, you might be already aware of that. The more related links and backlinks to similar sites/blogs will be there the higher of SEO score will.
Hence, In simple words, your rank on Google search will be higher.
Don't trust me, let me show you something from my own arsenal.
The most successful article from my medium site is based on a very basic tutorial that is technical not well written.
To this level, that I just have a small code directory and the instructions to use it.
The stats for this ill-written article is very high compared to my average stats and gets a ton of traffic, even outside of media searches.
The reason being, The title of the article is relatively general and widely searched.
On the contrary, my most well-written yet one of the least performing stories has a whopping 79 views.
Why the disparity.
Simply speaking, It’s a fictional short story that has never been read or written by anyone. The story hasn’t been yet discovered.
Hence, the search engines like Google barely will recommend it when you type in Short Story.
It was a figment of my imagination with a very generic Story Line.
WHY NOT WRITE TRENDY TOPICS THEN?
So you might be asking.
Puru, why the hell, Are you not writing trendy topics, like crypto, blockchain, politics, etc. when you show to know about it.
Simply speaking,
Writing for numbers isn’t my end game.
I am not a professional writer neither I am dependent on this for money.
I write occasionally in solace and just want to convey my thoughts.
And if Somebody pays it off by being a member of this site why not. I will take what you have to offer.
For me, If a single reader reads it, I will keep on writing irrespective of it goes viral or not. Because You as my reader, matter to me.
Thanks for Reading.
