As rumors have been flying around for months about a possible multiverse meeting — reuniting all three Spider-Men in Spider-Man: No Way Home — I’ve decided to revisit Sam Raimi’s classic trilogy. This is Chapter Two. You can read Chapter One here.

Sometimes when the stars align in Hollywood, they grant us a wish. In the spring of 2004, the wish that came true was Spider-Man 2. Peak Sam Raimi gave us a nearly perfect superhero movie with an excellent Tobey Maguire.

I don’t entirely remember what was going on that year. What I do recall is that I was a fourteen-year-old boy in elementary school — deeply in love with my first girlfriend. Life was good. I was making the type of friends I can still call today and tell them about my worries. BFFs? Fair to say, yeah.

I had struggles, though. Some that I’d wish to have again. Concerns like how much pocket money my dad was going to give me for the weekend. The anxiety of buying condoms for the first time. The shame of admitting getting Ds and Fs to my parents. Awkward conversations about sex. You know, teenage stuff.
