You go out to a party. You have an awesome experience with euphoric moments surrounded by people and music. You wake up the day after asking yourself — what the fuck happened last night? Not just because you were drunk, but because the waves of the experience still flow in your bloodstream. It was a Vybe.

What’s a Vybe though? A Vybe is the shared energy you experience with people; it starts when you get ready to go out, continues when you meet your friends and get inside the party, and peaks during the night. Whether it’s a huge party or a small gathering with friends, you can break down a Vybe to its components — your mood and expectations, your friends and the crowd, as well as the space, music, and light. Let’s break it down.

Your mood:

It’s this ongoing feeling that you have for the past few hours or days; maybe you’re happy after the midterm season, or grumpy after a breakup, or annoyed about your friend not being responsive or understanding. Or maybe you’re just tired after a few stressful days of work or school. All these affect your present, and as you’re getting ready to go out, your mood colors you. Your color can be seen by your surrounding — friends and strangers. The mood is in your control, and is affecting your friends’ mood — and as a result — the crowd and the entire Vybe. So be positive, and you’ll enjoy a better Vybe!

Your expectations:

What are your reasons to go out? what do you expect to achieve? These are critical to your satisfaction with the experience. Most people look for one or more of these five:

  1. Bond & intimacy — you’ll usually have opportunities to bond with your friends and strengthen your relationship. You might get to know new people, click with them, and bond over an awesome shared experience.
  2. Sex — pretty self-explanatory.
  3. Escape reality — great experiences fully immerse us in the moment, allowing us to forget about our daily lives, concerns and worries. This is a must for a magical moment to happen.
  4. Receive attention — many of us look forward to party and show-off. getting attention is elevating and can feel really awesome. Dressing up, makeup, perfume — all will increase our chances to get more attention.
  5. Feel comfortable and safe — without that we’ll be constantly stressed and fear for our safety, our belongings, and our friends’ well-being. A good host will make us feel safe, comfortable, and stress-free.

Your friends:

How many friends do you go out with? Are they close friends or just acquaintances? Do you even know all of them? There’s also the question of your personality type — do you need someone close to be your partner for the night, or are you the solo type? All these questions come together with your expectations for the night, and will affect your mood as well as your ability to make the most out of the experience. If you go out with your best friends, you’re more likely to experience magical moments that are the peak of great Vybes — these are the memorable moments that you cherish and bond over. It’s also important to be in sync with your friends; it’s very hard to have fun when your friends drink and you’re sober.

The crowd:

Pushing? Dancing or standing awkwardly? Drinking or getting high? Taking drugs? These questions heavily depend on the type of party, the space, music, and lights. If you go to a rave, you can expect high energy and dancing, drinking and drugs, and usually a lot of people. If you go to a high-end club or lounge, you can expect lower energy, more drugs than drinks, less dancing and more chilling, and a smaller crowd. Your mood and your friends’ energy are heavily dependent on all of these and will determine the success of the experience. “It’s all about the people” isn’t a cliche!

The space, music, and lights:

The space and the type of party have to be synchronous with you, your friend group, and the crowd. If the space is huge but there are only 50 people, things won’t go well; if you’re dressing up for a gala and ends up at a Brooklyn rave with a bunch of sweaty shirtless dudes — you might feel awkward. The music and lights also play a critical role; they have to fit the crowd and you have to personally like them. Imagine going to a concert of your least favorite artist..

The best Vybes are usually the ones where everything is in sync; aka a curated party. This is the responsibility of the venue and the party host. Of course, a shitty night with your best friends will probably be fun either way, but why not avoiding that by choosing wisely? On Vybe you can curate your friend group, choose between a variety of private parties, see who’s hosting and ask to join (or get a personal invitation), see who else is going, and more.

Vybe Together is an invite-only marketplace for private parties.
