This year, a Chicago artist has changed the way we listen, interact, and experience music across the world — especially, in the business industry. Despite the lack of a label, the Grammy’s have accepted Chance the Rapper; a first in the history of the Grammys.

On Tuesday, December 5th, the artist was nominated for seven awards; only two nominations from Beyonce’s nine this year. As an aunt in the eyes of Chance, she’s the most minted female artist in the history of the Grammys.

And we can’t forget about the eight nominations for Drake, Kanye West, and Rihanna.

This year, Chance will be changing the history of the Grammys single handed.

It’s been a struggle for the upcoming, outspoken artist ever since we released his first mixtape. Nobody took notice due to him not having a label and they’re not studio albums — yet, all of them are free. Never once has he charged his fans to enjoy his music; simply access them via digital streams and downloads.

His latest album, “Coloring Book,” has received much attention ever since its release; it now rises to the top of the Billboard 200 as his first streaming-only album.

Even though it’s appreciation by his fans and the public, it wasn’t considered eligible for the Grammys since it was never commercially sold. It wasn’t until June, that a petition drive had 40,000 signatures to showcase Chance’s album at this years Grammys. And the rest is history.
