A fervent Buddhist and Sanskrit translator from Canada, 67-year-old Scott Wellenbach is ranked third in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure tournament in the Bahamas. He won $671,240 and will donate all of the money to Buddhist charity organizations, as well as Oxfam and Doctors Without Borders.

“Here, at the poker tournament, internal discipline and daily meditations were very useful to me,” as Scott shares his secret for success.

Until yesterday, his biggest victory was $72,176, and he donated that money to charity as well.

“Of course, I am worried about the ethics of the game, which have led many to financial ruin. But, I suppose, I rationalize this by giving my winnings to charity. In a sense, poker is a great microcosm of the contradictions of existence. It gives us a terrific opportunity to understand the heaven and hell of reason,” as Wellenbach says in his contemplations.
