$84.8 billion is the amount of damages inflicted on the world by the 10 most terrible climatic disasters of 2018. The estimate was made by the Christian Aid charity report.

“Climate change is no longer speculative. Its effects are having a devastating effect on all continents right now!” As Michael Mann, professor of meteorology at the University of Pennsylvania, commented on the findings of the study. “Global weather is becoming more extreme before our very eyes. The only thing that can stop the exacerbation of the terrible trend is the rapid reduction in carbon emissions.”

Nearly 200 countries are seeking to limit the growth of global average temperatures under the 2015 Paris Agreement, but experts caution that progress towards achieving the goal is frighteningly slow.

Hurricanes Florence and Michael crashed into the Southeastern United States in the fall and caused damages worth $32 billion.
Japan was hit hard by floods and Typhoon Joby with damages estimated at about $9.4 billion.
Forest fires in California led to dozens of deaths and destroyed thousands of homes. Total losses amounted to $9.3 billion.

Among the most devastating and costly natural disasters in 2018 were the droughts in Europe, floods in Southern India, and Typhoon Manghut in the Philippines and China.

The only good news here is that society responds to woes very timely and generously transfers charitable funds in favor of the victims. But can we “help the victims of the hurricane (fire, typhoon) and not become a victim of fraudsters ourselves”, since the internet is literally crawling with articles with similar headlines. Journalists advise donors to donate only through proven, highly rated charity organizations. But is this a panacea?! For example, Hurricane Katrina took place back in 2005, and facts of theft of charity funds surfaced in 2006. In 2017, 22 employees of the Red Cross were charged with fraud. They transferred the financial aid to their friends and relatives. The damages were estimated at almost $0.5 million. The litigation is still ongoing.

W12 is a blockchain crowdfunding platform with no such problems. The collection / spending of funds on it is safe and 100% transparent. The absence of fraud is guaranteed by a publicly distributed registry, self-executable smart contracts and decision-making mechanisms. The one raising the charity funds does not receive the donations immediately, but in installments. Upon completing the first stage of the roadmap, they get an installment to complete the second stage. And so on. All the technical details can be found in our White Paper.
