Public employees already dedicate their time to helping the people of Washington every day. They also give back to their local communities in a big way through the Washington State Combined Fund Drive (CFD) — where state and public employees can give to charities of their choice through one-time donations or pledge ongoing payroll deductions.

The Health Care Authority (HCA) prides itself in its giving. In 2018, our CFD coordinators hosted six fundraising events, ranging from bake sales to collecting food and books for children to online auctions.

HCA employees love to give: a short video about the charities our generous employees gave to in 2018.

Here’s the breakdown:

$1,363 for Pizza Klatch of Thurston County — supporting LGBTQ+ youth in Thurston County through group pizza lunch meetings. Pizza Klatch serves over 300 youth weekly, providing support to students by promoting a safe and positive school experience through education and empowerment.

$5,900 for the Epilepsy Foundation of America — Anyone with a brain is at risk for seizures. Almost three million people in the United States suffer from epilepsy. This money will go to the Epilepsy Foundation of America to fund research and access to care.

$1,506 for Stand Up For Kids in Olympia — Helping break the cycle of youth homelessness through open, straightforward counseling, mentoring, and life-skills training.

$3,950 for Well Fed, Well Read Thurston County — The Well Fed, Well Read fund drive is held in Spokane County and Thurston County. Every spring, public agencies come together during the first part of April to host a book and food drive for their local charities.

$1,916 for the YMCA Foster Care Program — This year HCA employees donated to help raise funds to send local foster care children to YMCA summer camps, where kids can learn valuable skills and develop friendships in a supportive and fun environment.

$1,388 to the Make a Wish Foundation of Washington and Alaska — The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization that arranges experiences described as “wishes” to children diagnosed with critical illnesses. This money will go to fulfilling wished-for experiences for ill children in Washington and Alaska.

$3,756 for the Children’s Tumor Foundation — Over 80 percent of the funds of the Children’s Tumor Foundation go to research, public educational and patient support to end Neurofibromatosis (NF), which causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body.

$1,245 for the Washington Center for the Performing Arts — Supporting the Youth Arts Ambassador Program to help young people overcome barriers, develop leadership, workforce, and life skills through the arts.

Collectively HCA employees raised over $17,000 for charities through workplace fundraising events and payroll deductions. A big thank you to our CFD coordinators and all who donated!

Washington State is one of the most giving states in the nation. Every year, over 15,000 active and retired public employees pledge more than $5 million to over 1,700 local, national and global charities.
