Hello WADA,
Growing up in the 90s in Nigeria I was molded into a system that sung of hope and lofty dreams of the future. Everyday myself and my peers were greeted with political ads on TV that sold promises of a brighter tomorrow. There were no other means of getting one’s information, no internet or mobile technology to have alternative views from what was popular, so people gobbled it up and believed the stories being told. This same phenomenon plays out in many African countries to this day. The hope of a brighter tomorrow is sung into the ears of families and individuals alike, however these promises are so often empty. The infrastructure promises are not realized, the economy of starvation keeps increasing, education is a mess and healthcare is…well, nothing worth noting. There is however a new technology that can change all of this, this technology is called blockchain.
According to the economist, Africa’s population is doubling in size by 2050. Of this population boom, 60% are said to be under the age of 25. This number is huge, especially given the number of youths left economically idle. This idleness, this lack of direction for the next generation in Africa may spell doom for everyone on this continent. We’re already seeing this doom play out with the rise in domestic terrorism and youth being used as political pawns and rooks. And with the rate of unemployment soaring in most African countries, there is a psychological deficit developing as well with growing frustration fueling the rise in suicide cases and depression. The education system in most African countries is also outdated which has created a disconnect between employers and workers with relevant knowledge for jobs available in today’s marketplace. We are sitting on a ticking time bomb. How can we solve this problem?
Enter WADA (West Africa Decentralized Alliance). WADA was formed with Africa at heart. A team of passionate individuals coming together to form this organization with one mission at its core. Collaboration. WADA is an organization that is taking advantage of decentralized technology via the blockchain space to reach out to the teeming youth population interested in learning how to improve their lives and their immediate environment.
WADA’s success is due to a growing group of individuals both in Africa and abroad whose aim is to create socioeconomic growth in African via blockchain technology. WADA seeks to democratize this growth through giving everyone interested in helping an opportunity to become a force for positive change. One of WADA’s main objectives is to bring distributed ledger technology across Africa with the Cardano network serving as our vehicle for growth. WADA currently has hubs in 6 African countries. We intend to increase this number as interest in the space continues to grow. What we have already established through these hubs are services like:
- Education and training
- Consultation
- Networking and outreach
WADA understands that education is a primary tool that drives growth and so this is a top priority for our team. We are constantly searching for brilliant minds who want to maximize their potential through blockchain technology. Through our hubs, we intend to teach skills that are relevant to this emerging tech space!
What does the future look like for WADA?
We see ourselves leading the charge in every African country when it comes to innovation and education in the blockchain space through collaborating with other groups interested in pushing the future of the continent’s growth in innovative ways. WADA’s feet have just been planted and we are therefore seeking all the help we can get! We are calling out to every professional in education, IT, governance, agric, housing and any field imaginable to join WADA in building a future where Africa can become a dominant beacon for the new age of blockchain technology, leading the charge towards a fairer and more equilateral world for all nations and people.
