My *must read* product & tech newsletters

Part of what’s great about working in tech is the pace of change. And part of what’s challenging about tech is keeping up with that change. True to form, the way I’ve tried to keep up with change as changed over the years too (ooh, how meta) but recently I’ve been going back the “old school” solution of getting my news from email newsletters.

Facebook, and particularly Twitter, can be hard to manage and keep up with, but there’s something reassuringly simple about getting a newsletter. These are my current favourites:

Benedict’s Newsletter

https://www.ben-evans.com/

I always save this to read for a round-up of all that’s new in tech, especially about mobile. You get news, stats and cool things. What’s more to like?

Stratechery

https://stratechery.com/2017/the-pollyannish-assumption/

The great thing about these emails is the whole blog post is sent, so it’s a nice one to read with a cup of tea, or indeed squished next to the window on your train to work. It takes an unusually big picture view to the economics of startups and aggregators (don’t know what that is, you’ll soon find out). Hell, I’m pretty close to starting to pay for more of their articles, which is about as high praise as any newsletter/blog could get.

Mind the product

https://www.mindtheproduct.com/

From my favourite product conference, comes my favourite product newsletter. Curated product-related content from the MTP site and elsewhere on the web, it’s a weekly goldmine of product goodness.

SVGP Newsletter

https://svpg.com/

Penned by the product legend Marty Cagan, you’ll learn about product management and all there is to know about building great products.

The Signal (mixpanel)

https://mixpanel.com/blog/

MixPanel’s very own blog includes, as you might expect, a shed load of interesting data based on all their customer analytics, but also has interesting and in-depth interviews with product leaders. It’s so cool it even has its own manifesto.

First round review

http://firstround.com/review/

Penned by the VC firm First Round, their newsletter also has a manifesto to go along with super interesting insights into all sorts of startup problems. Alongside their new First Search tool, they are clearly passionate about creating and surfacing great content related to all things startup.

The Danny Denhard Times

Ok, this isn’t actually a newsletter, but my colleague Danny shares his must-read articles every week over on LinkedIn. Given the fact he introduced me to at least two of the newsletters above, and is always the first person to share that really interesting thing on Twitter, he really deserves a plug and a follow.

Postscript — the past of the future

As part of writing this, I decided to check on my long-lost netvibes account. Back before Google Reader existed (and then didn’t exist), RSS feeds were the cool new thing, it was the tool I used to keep up with news. It’s kinda interesting to see what I was interested in 7+ years ago. Needless to say there are a lot of unreads now…

My netvibes page. And yes, one tab was for MySpace updates 😆
