Video transcript:

Hello, everyone. It is National Public Health Week, and I wanted to thank you all for your dedicated work to create and improve health for all people across our state.

Here at DOH and with our local Health Department and other partners, we license 430,000 health care providers, protect 21,000 water systems and investigate close to 30,000 communicable diseases.

We also test around 85,000 newborns for disorders, provide SNAP vouchers at more than 80 farmer’s markets, issue over 500,000 birth and death certificates, and connect close to 2,000 adults with pre-diabetes to diabetes prevention programs.

All of these numbers are just a snapshot of what we all do. As you know, we don’t do this work alone. I encourage you to reach out to our partners this week and thank them for their unending dedication and service.

Finally, Public Health Week gives us the opportunity to celebrate all of this great work through sharing our stories. Stories are an important way to tell others about public health. Many may not understand public health and the positive impact of our work.

I encourage you to share your public health stories with your friends and family. Social media is another great way that you can help spread the word about public health. I encourage you to follow DOH on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and to retweet and share our posts within your networks. Again, thank you for all that you do.
