One million vaccines and climbing!
We’re on our way to ending the COVID-19 pandemic, thanks to the persistence and patience of everyone in Washington.
Today, after only eight weeks since the first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Washington, we reached a major milestone. Today, we can proudly announce that health care providers have administered over one million vaccine doses across our state. This number includes first and second doses.
This is a momentous achievement that definitely deserves celebration! But, the work isn’t over — in fact, we are just getting started.
We achieved this significant milestone thanks to the incredible efforts of our healthcare workers and volunteers. We also applaud everyone who calls Washington home for their patience and flexibility during this extraordinary vaccination effort.
The development and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines is an unprecedented effort. We are in uncharted territory, facing entirely new challenges to learn from. There’s no such thing as a perfect system for vaccinating an entire state — or for that matter, a country. But, if we all keep our eye on the prize, we will succeed. We got this far by millions of people doing their best to overcome challenges, and by taking care of each other.
And our best is getting better all the time.
We are now over halfway to our goal of administering 45,000 doses per day. And, we will continue to increase the pace as more supplies arrive. Currently, there are over 1,200 places approved to be vaccine providers in Washington. With the help of the National Guard, we now have four mass vaccination clinics in operation, and more opening soon. Over 1.2 million people have already used our Phase Finder tool to check their vaccine eligibility or to sign up for notifications when their phase arrives.
In Washington state, we will give COVID-19 vaccinations to anyone who wants one once they are eligible. And with every dose given, we show that the vaccines are safe, effective, and that the end of the pandemic is within reach.
Over the past year, everyone’s life was drastically reshaped by this disease, and we have suffered tragic losses along the way, but we are all making progress. Thank you, each and every one of you, for your ongoing patience as we vaccinate the next million Washingtonians.
