Whats hot on the hotline?

Tales from our customer service line.

--

My name’s Jamey Davidsmeyer. I’ve been at DOH for a little over three months now, and I am the customer service specialist in the Center for Public Affairs. I answer the main 1–800-DOH information line, and I answer the information inbox emails that come into the agency.

[on screen text] What is your most common question?

We get a lot of questions about mold. A lot of people call and say, you know, I live in an apartment and I have mold and it’s a common question. We don’t have a lot to do with that at DOH, but it’s nice, it’s easy enough to say, oh, call your county health department, and then call the consumer line at the Attorney General’s office, you know, those people can help you.

[on screen text] Best part of your job?

I think, I like talkin’ to people. I was a teacher. I got an MA in English, so I taught college freshmen. And I think if you can talk to college freshmen, you can pretty much talk to anybody. If somebody calls here and they’re audibly upset, you know, you can have a direct impact on their day just by, you know, the right combination of words. And that’s a good feeling.

[on screen text] Any hidden talents?

No, oh, I can bake, I bake bread. I also bake bread. I like to bake bread, I don’t know.

[on screen text] The skill you wish you had…

Oh, I wish I could play guitar. I played drums growin’ up, and my friends were all guitar players. And I wanted to be the guitar player.

[on screen text] If you could have one superpower…

Oh, super power, I’ll go with flight. I think it would just be really easy to, like, get from place to place. If could just fly home instead of takin’ I-5, I’d be on it.
