When is it your turn to get the COVID-19 vaccine?

An elderly woman receives a vaccine.

The COVID-19 vaccine is here in Washington and it brings the hope of a pandemic-free future.

The vaccine is one of the best strategies we have now to protect ourselves and our loved ones from the virus that defined 2020. It’s heartening, to say the least, that eventually every adult — and teen! — in Washington who wants to get the vaccine will be able to get one this year.

But for now, there is a limited supply. This is why the vaccine is rolling out in several phases over the coming months. It is going first to our fellow community members who are at highest risk of getting COVID-19 and those most likely to become seriously ill if they are infected, such as high-risk workers in healthcare settings, people over 65, and people living in nursing homes.

To find out if you’re currently eligible or to be notified when it’s your turn, you can now go to FindYourPhaseWA.org. If it’s your turn now, this new tool will provide you with a confirmation of eligibility that you can print or take a screenshot of on your mobile phone. You will present this to a vaccine provider to demonstrate your eligibility. The tool will also send you to a website to locate the vaccination sites near you, from there you can schedule an appointment.

Don’t worry, you won’t need to keep filling out the tool until you become eligible. If you provide your email address or phone number, we can send you a notification when it is your turn. The tool is completely private and secure, none of your information will be shared.

We are working with public health experts, health care systems and community leaders across the state to make the rollout of this vaccine as fair, equitable, and fast as possible.

Truth be told, given the currently low supply, challenging storage requirements, and unprecedented global demand this may just be the largest logistical challenge our world, our nation and our state has ever faced, and there is no perfect way to get it done.

But as they say we can’t let perfection get in the way of progress. We will work every day to implement and improve the vaccine distribution system, bolstered by the spirit of patience and community that the people of Washington have demonstrated time and time again over this last year. Thank you all for your patience and your grace, and for keeping those masks on until we can be sure we’re all safe.
