When we first launched the Wagr app, there was only one type of bet available: the point spread bet. The onboarding experience left much to be desired. And, if you wanted to deposit funds but your bank wasn’t supported, you were SOL.

That was our MVP — our minimum viable product. We knew it wasn’t going to reach #1 in the App Store. But, it was the first step towards the mission of reinventing the sports betting experience into a social, intuitive, and inclusive experience designed for all sports fans.

This early version of the product allowed us to learn. We spoke with you and heard what you loved, what you hated, and what you wished for. I’m personally very grateful for the time so many of you took to speak with me about your experience on Wagr, and look forward to many more of those conversations. It’s these calls and coffee chats, texts and emails or comments made at watch parties that help us know what’s most important to you.

And, we listened. We expanded our payment methods 3-fold with debit card deposits and withdrawals, and PayPal, and completely revamped the new joiner flow.

Most recently, we launched Wagr 2.5.0 — one of the biggest updates yet. Check it out 👇

What’s New

🤑 Money Line Bets & Total Bets

On most sportsbooks, you’re greeted by a screen that looks something like this. It’s a wall of numbers. I love tables as much as the next Excel fan, but betting on sports shouldn’t feel like homework!

Plus, if you’re not informed as to what all these numbers actually mean, it can be an extremely intimidating and confusing sight to see. While the mechanics of how these bets work is the same across the industry, the experience doesn’t have to be. We like to do things a little differently here at Wagr.

It all started with a post in Idea Central, an open space for everyone at the company to submit ideas. We upvote our favorites and bring them into the app. Sam Lu, a talented engineer with an eye for design, shared an idea that quickly rose to the top.

We said goodbye to the wall of numbers, and hello to a fun and interactive way to place your bets.

If you’re not sure what some of the numbers on the page mean, or if you want a reminder on how certain bets work, we’ve got you covered. Simply pull up the ‘Odds Breakdown’ bottom sheet for more information.

When designing and building Wagr, our mission is always top of mind. Anyone, regardless of betting experience or knowledge, should be able to open the Wagr app and quickly and easily know how to place a bet and what exactly they are betting on. Wagr does not look or feel like any other sports betting app out there, and that is intentional. We will continue to push the envelope on design and make sure the UX/UI is always intuitive, and, well…fun! 😊

🎨 Design Changes

If you haven’t been on Wagr in a few months, you may not recognize us anymore. This Wagr is new. It’s different. And it’s improving every.single.day. Now is a better time than ever to bet on Wagr and engage with the community, especially with football season back in action!

Here’s a quick look at some of the recent changes initiated by Wagr‘s design team:

The Home feed is more space efficient so you can view more activity without endlessly scrolling. We’re also using usernames everywhere instead of your first name and last initial. A little secret to share — soon we’ll allow you to hide your legal name from your profile and have a completely customizable display name! Keep an eye out for the next update ;)

This week, you’ll see a new and improved games list. We moved from color squiggles to circles for a cleaner look, and importantly, added key bet information so you can see the point spread, totals spread, and money line odds directly from the games list. This is to help you decide which games you’d like to bet on. We want to show you the information you need, without making Wagr feel like Excel.

We’ve added color coding to the various bet types in the inbox so you can easily distinguish which bet types are available to you.
