Introducing the 2021 Wake Forest Baseball Analytics Staff

As we head into an exciting 2021 season in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with the Wake Forest University baseball program, our team of 8 student analysts are ready to get to work. On the field, the Deacs made the most of a unique fall season that included 18 fall scrimmages plus simulated games and live at-bats when possible.

Behind the scenes, this is a team of bright, analytically-minded students who are looking to present insightful and impactful work that makes its way to the field. Here is the 2021 Wake Forest Baseball Analytics staff, starting with our Full Time Pitching Lab Coordinator and Director of Player Development.

Evan Wise: Pitching Lab Coordinator, Director of Player Development

  • Evan Wise joined Wake Forest in July 2019 and is working as the Pitching Lab Coordinator with the Wake Forest Baseball team. His responsibilities include collecting and analyzing biomechanical data, and using it to prepare throwing plans for Wake Forest’s pitchers. Before coming to Wake Forest, Wise worked at 108 Performance Academy in Tustin, California, where he was the summer director of pitching to educate pitchers on kinematics and pitch metrics. Wise previously spent 2018 as an Area Supervisor for the New York Mets with scouting responsibilities in Southern California. Before that, Wise was pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for four seasons at Lenoir Rhyne.

Chad Raines: Baseball Systems & Analytics, Lead Analyst

  • Chad is a current graduate student in the Master of Science in Business Analytics program. Prior to coming to Wake Forest, Chad graduated from the University of North Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Exercise Sport Science — Sport Administration, where he also served as the Associate Director of Baseball Analytics for the Tar Heels. After this spring season, Chad will be moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he will be working in the Research & Development department with the Minnesota Twins with a focus on Player Development.

Gregory Dvorocsik: Coordinator, Advance Scouting Analytics

  • Gregory is a senior at Wake Forest University, where he is majoring in Mathematical Business and minoring in Statistics. For the last two years, Gregory has worked with Eno Sarris and Dr. Joe Camp (an engineering professor from SMU in Dallas) on pitch pairing analysis which led to presenting at the SABR Conference in March and a publication in their paper.

Chris Lewis: Project Manager, Advance Scouting Analytics

  • Chris is a junior at Wake Forest University, where he is pursuing a major in Accounting and minor in History. In addition to working with the Wake Baseball team, Chris serves as Treasurer of the Wake Forest Sports Analytics Club and is a member of the Accounting Society. Chris previously worked as an intern for MLB Network, where he researched and wrote scripts for the top 50 draft prospects in the 2018 MLB Draft.

Joey Mylott: Biomechanics Graduate Assistant

  • Joey is working on a Master’s degree in biomedical engineering at Wake Forest University. His research in the Pitching Lab is focused on biomechanics for sports performance and injury prevention. During Joey’s undergraduate studies, heplayed D3 baseball at RIT in Rochester, NY and really started diving into data driven development in baseball. Joey’s training during his collegiate baseball career really sparked the interest for his future professional career. Joey wants to work as a biomechanist for an MLB organization or a private training facility.

Naomi Cutter: Data Analyst

  • In her second year as a Data Analyst for the Wake Forest Baseball Team, Naomi is excited to have the opportunity to work on impactful projects for such an esteemed program. With extensive internship experience in both collegiate and professional athletics, Naomi has worked with a variety of people and has developed strong teamwork and leadership skills. Naomi is currently working as a Statistics TA for two upper-level classes here at Wake Forest, aiding students in their understanding of the material as well as honing in on her own statistical analysis skills. Naomi is actively networking and searching for a full time job post-graduation that allows her to combine her strengths and passions for sports, business, and analytics.

Nihar Maskara: Data Analyst

  • Nihar Maskara is a current sophomore at Wake Forest University majoring in Mathematical Business and minoring in Statistics. Nihar is a hardworking and passionate individual with a love for baseball and problem-solving. Nihar previously interned for the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) and had a stats job lined up with the old Yankees Double-A affiliate, the Trenton Thunder, before the minor league season got canceled due to COVID-19. Using his knowledge of business and statistics, Nihar is actively pursuing his dream of working in professional sports with the hope of eventually working for an MLB team.

Lauren McGovern: Data Analyst

  • Lauren grew up going to Nationals games and her interest has grown as she has gotten older. As Lauren began to understand the game more, she learned more about how much analytics has guided the modern game. Lauren hopes to combine her love of baseball and problem solving into a career.

Coby Schneider: Data Analyst

  • The 2021 season will be Coby’s second year contributing to the Wake Baseball Analytics team. Coby is a hardcore baseball and stats nerd, but he also enjoys watching football, reading, and listening to music and podcasts in his free time. Coby also loves traveling, as he studied abroad for a summer in Spanish and has been to 21 U.S. states!
