Meet the 2022–2023 Wake Forest Baseball Analytics Team

The Wake Forest Baseball Analytics program is excited to announce the members of the 2022–2023 team. Throughout the fall and winter, the Analytics team has been hard at work supporting the Wake Forest Baseball team in all aspects of the game. Our team of twenty student analysts has worked tirelessly to develop new systems that enhance our performance evaluation, player development, and advance scouting capabilities.

We are eager to continue providing actionable insights that support the Baseball program.

Chris Lewis

  • The 2023 season will be Chris’s fourth season with the Wake Forest Baseball Analytics program, and second as program Director. As Director of Analytics, Chris oversees a team of twenty students that assist the baseball program in player development, advance scouting, and biomechanical analysis. Chris graduated from Wake Forest in 2022 with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and is currently pursuing his Master’s of Science in Accounting.

Nihar Maskara

  • Nihar is a current senior at Wake Forest University majoring in Mathematical Business and minoring in Statistics. This is his third year with the baseball analytics team. After graduation, Nihar will be working for the Minnesota Twins as an Analyst in Player Development Research.

Lauren McGovern

  • Lauren McGovern is a current senior Engineering major at Wake Forest University. Throughout her time at Wake on the Analytics team, she has been able to work on Advance Scouting and other analytics projects. She grew up going to Nationals games and her interest has grown as she has gotten older. As Lauren began to understand the game more, she learned more about how much analytics has guided the modern game. Lauren hopes to combine her love of baseball and problem-solving into a career.

Sydney Bryan

  • Undergraduate English and Communications Major, Class of 2024
  • Hometown: Davidson, NC
  • Sydney is a junior from Davidson, North Carolina. This is her second year with the baseball analytics team. She is majoring in English and Communications. Her favorite baseball team is the Baltimore Orioles. She also works in Fan Experiences at Wake Forest to assist in game-day operations for different sports at Wake Forest.

Daniel Cammarota

  • Undecided, Class of 2026 (Business, Political Science, Statistics all favored)
  • Hometown: Cape Neddick, ME
  • Danny is a current freshman at Wake Forest University. This is his first year with the Wake Baseball analytics team. During high school, he started each baseball season (outside COVID), including being a Captain/all-league status during his junior and senior years. He enjoys hiking, country music, and building his baseball card collection. He is especially interested in baseball-specific statistics and baseball mechanics.
  • Fun Fact: Danny played baseball with and against several MLB players’ sons, including the son of David ‘Big Papi’ Ortiz four different years!

Jae Canetti

  • Applied Math and Computer Science Major, Environmental Studies Minor, Class of 2024
  • Hometown: Fairfax City, VA
  • Jae is a junior studying applied math and computer science. Jae has loved baseball ever since he developed object permanence, and he spent his high school years playing for his school and writing articles for Minor League Baseball’s official website. Jae had been itching to join an analytics team for years, and ever since he joined the team at Wake, he’s really enjoyed directly applying what he learns in class towards helping the Deacs win.
  • Fun Fact: When Jae was a kid, he was in the National Spelling Bee three times. Out of all the words he spelled in all his competitions across nine years, the only word he ever got twice was “sabermetrics”.

Katie Carr

  • Prior to Wake Forest, Katie graduated with a B.B.A in Information Systems from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. She first became interested in sports analytics when she worked for ACU’s baseball team as the Data Collection & Projects Manager. This is her first year joining the Wake Forest analytics team and she’s excited to learn even more.

Lucas Catuogno

  • B.S. Mathematical Statistics, Class of 2024
  • Hometown: Franklin Lakes, NJ
  • Lucas is a current Junior at Wake Forest University in his first season with the baseball analytics team. After being involved in sports for his entire life, he was fascinated by the sabermetric revolution in the MLB, and now he is working towards innovating player evaluation and performance maximization in sports through predictive modeling and advanced analytics.

Andrew Cibik

  • Undergraduate Mathematics Major, Chemistry and Biology Minor, Class of 2025
  • Hometown: Atlanta, GA
  • Andrew is a Wake Forest Sophomore participating in his first season with the baseball analytics team. Although knowledgeable with baseball analytics, Andrew had no project experience prior to this season. However, he has quickly caught on and successfully completed an independent project and is currently working on another group project. He believes his mathematics major will be of great value to the analytics team and himself, and he is eager to implement all that he has learned. Andrew is excited for the regular season, and cannot wait to continue working and cheering on the Demon Deacons to another successful season.

Anthony Coniglio

  • Hometown: Manalapan, NJ
  • Anthony is a senior majoring in Mathematical Business and minoring in Statistics. This is his second year with the analytics program. This past summer he gained more experience in analytics working as a Data Analyst, creating visuals and performing statistical analysis on data from every college in the country. Anthony has previously worked for a sports merchandise company, where he was able to combine his knowledge of data analytics and sports to help the company decide which teams were most successful.
  • Fun Fact: He once wore a Yankee jersey to Fenway Park and Wally the Green Monster tried to take it off of him.

Taylor Hoffman

  • Applied Statistics and Computer Science Major, Math Minor, Class of 2024
  • Hometown: Cross River, NY
  • Taylor is a Junior Applied Statistics and Computer Science double major. This is her first season with the analytics team and she is super excited for the regular season. This past summer, Taylor worked for TrackMan Baseball in Stamford, CT. Her work there included recording and analyzing accurate statistics for major, minor, NCAA, and international baseball teams to help them find future prospects.

Benjamin Klein

  • Intended Mathematical Business Major, Statistics and Computer Science Minors, Class of 2025
  • Hometown: Westport, CT
  • Since taking his first Statistics class in High school, Ben has pursued the application of data to real-world problems, specifically in his love of sports. Because of this, he decided to participate in the 2022 Wake Forest Datafest, completing an in-depth analysis with his team of a data set with thousands of entries. These lifelong interests also led him to join the Baseball Analytics team at Wake. In his first year on the team, he hopes to combine his passions in sports and data to help the Deacs to win.

Ryan Melnick

  • Hometown: Livingston, NJ
  • Ryan is a senior in the Wake Forest University School of Business, pursuing a degree in Mathematical Business and a minor in statistics. This past summer, he worked in the Atlanta Braves IT department as a Business Analyst Intern. Some of his responsibilities included cleansing data, building queries, performing custom analysis, and synthesizing findings into insights. His experiences have taught him the importance of data management, data integrity, and how data evolves over time. This is Ryan’s second year on the Analytics Team, and he can’t wait for another successful season this spring.

Rohan Miglani

  • Intended Mathematical Business Major, Class of 2025
  • Hometown: Arlington Heights, IL
  • Rohan is a sophomore at Wake Forest University with an intended major in mathematical business. He has always been passionate about the use of statistics in sports and is excited to have the opportunity to be apart of the Wake Forest Baseball analytics team, with this being his first year on the team. Rohan grew up in a suburb of Chicago, Arlington Heights, and played four years of high school baseball at Lake Forest Academy. Rohan hopes to pursue a career in data analytics after college.

Zach Naddelman

  • Intended Mathematical Business Major, Class of 2026
  • Hometown: Princeton Junction, NJ
  • Zach is a freshman at Wake Forest University intending to major in Mathematical Business with a statistics minor. This is his first year with the baseball analytics team. He played baseball from T-ball to the varsity level in high school. Zach is a big Yankees fan, but his favorite player is Ke’Bryan Hayes.

Iain Newman

  • Iain is a small-town Iowan that loves everything baseball, science, and analytics.
  • Fun Fact: Iain was born in England and has lived in 6 different states.

Nicholas Oliver

  • Master of Science in Business Analytics, Class of 2023

  • Hometown: Decatur, GA
  • Nick will be graduating in May of 2023 with a Master’s in Business Analytics. Nick completed his undergrad at the University of Georgia, where he majored in Business Management & International Business with a focus on the language of Spanish and a minor in Sport Management. In his undergrad, he interned with the UGA Small Business Development Center, a consulting organization specializing in developing business, owned and operated by UGA.
  • Fun Fact: He virtually cannot see out of my right eye due to an injury when he was young. He also went to over 70 home games in the Braves’ final season at Turner Field, including the last game there.

Kyle Phillips

  • Master of Science in Business Analytics, Class of 2023
  • Hometown: Parsippany, NJ
  • Kyle graduated in May of 2022 from Susquehanna University with a bachelors degree in business data science and analytics with a minor in sports media. At Susquehanna, he worked in the athletics communication office as well as a game-day assistant for all sports. He has an ambition to work in the sports industry and will be graduating from Wake Forest in May of 2023 with a Masters degree in Business Analytics.

Mark Rivilis

  • Master’s of Science in Business Analytics, Class of 2023
  • Hometown: Marlboro, NJ
  • Mark is a graduate student in the Masters of Science of Business Analytics program at Wake Forest. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and Psychology at Wake Forest. This is Mark’s first year on the baseball analytics team. While I’m undergrad, Mark was a member of the Wake Forest Marching Band, and thus was always an active fan of Wake athletics. Now, as a graduate student, he is very excited to be able to combine his love of analytics with his love of sports. Following graduation, Mark will move to Charlotte to work as a Data Analyst for OneMain Financial.

Ben Rothstein

  • Intended Applied Statistics Major, Class of 2026
  • Hometown: Mount Kisco, NY
  • Ben is a freshman at Wake Forest, and thus it’ll be his first season with the Wake Forest Baseball Analytics Team. Up until college a huge focus of his life was playing baseball — he was a pitcher from the moment he picked up a ball all the way until his senior year of high school. At the same time, he slowly developed a passion for watching the game, and the ever-growing opportunity to use statistics in its analysis. He dreams of working in MLB after college, but for now he is really looking forward to using his knowledge and passion to better the baseball program here at Wake Forest.
