Did you know that one of summer’s favorite treats was born out of a forgetful mistake? That’s right, popsicles came into existence thanks to an accident by an 11-year-old named Frank Epperson in 1905. After leaving a mixture of soda and water out overnight with a stirring stick in it, he discovered it had frozen. The result was so delightful that he called it an “Epsicle.” Years later, as a father, his children would refer to his creation as “Pop’s Sicle,” and thus, the popsicle was born. It’s a testament to how some of the best things in life come from the unexpected!

Popsicles are the icy treats that have become synonymous with summer joy and childhood nostalgia. But there’s more to these frozen delights than just a way to beat the heat. Let’s explore some fun facts about popsicles and delve into homemade recipes that will make you the star of summer gatherings.

Popsicles: A Healthy Treat?

When made with wholesome ingredients, popsicles can indeed be a healthy addition to your summer diet. Using natural fruit juices, purees, and yogurt not only adds vitamins and minerals but also keeps added sugars in check. For an extra health boost, consider adding greens like spinach or kale to your fruit purees — your kids won’t even know they’re eating their veggies!
