Some musings on female relationships

“A good friend is like a four leaf clover.
Hard to find and lucky to have.”
— Irish Proverb

A magnet with this quote adorns my refrigerator.

It was sent to me by a dear friend — a gesture to let me know how much our long-distance relationship means to her.

The feeling is overwhelmingly mutual.

We don’t find many friends like her in our lifetime.

And yet, outside of this specific kinship, I do have to question the validity of the quote in question.

After all, I have been blessed with many different, blossoming, wonderful friendships in my lifetime.

And most weren’t hard to find. At all.

Is my experience unique?

I do know that female relationships often get a bad rap. We’re stereotyped to be jealous, catty, and gossipy. Green-eyed monsters, unable to be supportive of each others’ successes.

I am sure that is true for some people. But the older I get, the less I am seeing of that. Especially within my own circle.

My friends are true rockstars at the friendship game.
