Recently, someone asked me if I was happy.

My answer almost instantaneously was Yes.

Then I asked myself, what does it mean to be happy?

Why did I answer that I was happy?

It is hard to pinpoint or have a clear definition of what it means to be happy.

Then I started looking at different parts of my life.

I have a decent job, which pays decently well.

I have good relationships with my family.

My physical health is ok, though it could be better. I am building habits to change it for the better.

My mental health is good, I feel a sense of contentment these days.

I am growing professionally and personally.

I try to do some good in whatever small way I can.

I still have big dreams and goals, but when I started looking into each part of my life, it occurred to me that I am happy.

My definition of happiness is being content in my relationships, my personal and professional growth, my mental and physical health, and my financial health.

It makes it super easy for me to evaluate whether I am happy or not by knowing the individual components that contribute to me being happy.

What is your definition of being happy?

I’d recommend writing down the various aspects of your life that are important for you to be happy.

I listed mine above. Yours could be different.

Trust me, once you have identified what happiness means for you, it becomes super simple to know if you are happy or unhappy.

And if you are unhappy, it gives you a roadmap to become happy.
