ISBN Paradox

It took me some time to make up my mind

Like many others, I had the same struggle with whether I should put an ISBN on my books, too many reasons behind to each individual, but the most frequently heard reason was from an ‘advice?’ that :

ebook can be published without an ISBN

Well, this is true. Buying ISBN is expensive (except in bulk say 1000 nos.), and seems it’s not worth especially for a newbie indie author, who writes & publishes ebooks only, in the meantime.

So, I started using those free reference codes provided by online bookstores in 2020 and didn’t bother to take care of this issue while I had to spend tons of time & effort in my writing & self-publish journey, too much to learn such as writing techniques, bios, blurb, formatting, resolution, image size, color profile, pixel limit, metadata, conversion, upload, download,…, etc, etc.

I was still taking a part-time job until 2023, my twelve mini books series were already published on two online platforms; and I decided to give my babies a real & permanent identity this year because I want to be serious in my author career, that is one of the important issues for me to act; so what I needed was to replace those 24 free codes.

Why 24 not 12? it will be definitely wiser to assign each format, say ePub, pdf…
