Not too long ago, I had the fun experience of pet-sitting an Oriental Shorthair cat and wanted to write about this unusual cat breed.

If you’ve ever been intrigued by their elegant appearance and unique personalities, you’re not alone. With their sleek bodies, wedge-shaped heads, and almond-shaped eyes, these felines have a distinct charisma that sets them apart.

I found his personality so different from other cats I have been around, and owned. He was so much fun to be around.

History of Oriental Shorthair Cats

The Oriental Shorthair cat breed, known for its unique beauty, has a fascinating history. Like the Siamese cat breed, the Oriental Shorthair originated in ancient Siam, now Thailand, symbolizing elegance and grace.

Oriental Shorthairs were bred in the mid-20th century by cat breeders who wanted more color and pattern varieties than Siamese cats.

Breeders crossbred the Siamese with Abyssinian, British Shorthair, and domestic shorthair cats to create this breed.
