The Galacticos era brought success to Real Madrid in Laliga by winning two titles in 2001 and 2003. However, their main goal of winning Chanpions League was not successful , as they have only reached semifinals in UCL several times except the 2002 UCL as they won the trophy with Zinedine Zidane’s iconic volley against Bayer Leverkusen, but looking into big picture Galacticos UCL campaings were not successful as they expected.

The Galacticos era brought global recognition and huge commercial success to Real Madrid. They were making huge revenue from shirt sales, sponsorships and packed stadiums and they have became a global brand.Fans were attracted to watch their games as they can spectate best players in world at a time.

But football pundits criticized that as Galacticos were only focusing on individual stars, it affected the team play and tactics, as they relied on individual qualities of players more than discipline and tactics,as this lead to open up vulnerabilities in the team as it becomes more hard to beat opponents with more structured and disciplined style of play.

The Challenges of Managing Superstars

Managing team with super stars and with ego issues is another big challenge to handle,as it’s not easy to create tactics or create a specific playing style as players won’t adjust with that as they have their own favourite positions and many preferences. This gave managers a lot of pressure as they will be always trying to implement some tactics and playing styles. This lead to undefined structure in team , there were no system, no clear roles for players , there were no specific formation as it changed frequently and this lead to confusion and inconsistency on the pitch.
