The first layer of self-realization is understanding time is more precious than any other resource.

Time is non-renewable. Once lost, a moment cannot be relived. It’s gone forever.

The houses you own, the car you drive, the private pool you swim in. These are just vanity metrics that don’t denote your freedom.

True freedom is when you have the free time to do the things you love and be with the people you love.

But, since the advent of the digital age, you have a bigger threat than the risk of losing your precious time.

What’s More Precious Than Time?

You see, the resource more valuable than your time is:

Your attention

Because, how you spend your time, is directly influenced by what you pay attention to.

Paying attention to:

  • Things That Don’t Deserve Your Attention = Time Wasted
  • Things That Deserve Your Attention = Time Utilized

Since the invention of newspapers, people have been fighting over your attention.

But in the current world, the fight is stronger than ever. And if you don’t monitor your attention, it’s a losing battle. It will be too late before you realize you just binge-watched 2 hours of cat videos on YouTube.

How Not To Waste It

It’s important to monitor who and what you give your attention to.

Here are 2 simple steps to not waste this precious resource:

  • Remove distractions that pull your attention away from things that deserve it.
  • Whenever something truly deserves your attention, zone in on it. Focus on it and only it. A wandering mind is an unhappy mind.

Consider to whom, why, what, and when you give your attention. Monitor it as closely as you do your wealth and you’ll have a richer mind.
