I was livid when I read the news. I knew it was coming, fellow Kiwis, but when it was made a reality, I fumed a good solid day.

Larry Page, the Google billionaire, has gotten himself and his family major special treatment from the New Zealand government on their wealth alone.

It seems not only was he handed residency like a bag of jaffas, but his family received unheard-of special treatment during a pandemic. Coming from his privately-owned Fijian island, he was given special dispenstation to fly to Auckland for treatment for one of his children, even as every other Kiwi returning home is forced to languish in managed isolation, sick family members or no.

His NZ staff actually asked for him and his family to get special first-class hotel accommodations for their MIQ. I’d like to say it was a piss-take, but no.
