The image shows a dark background and an orange sign with white lettering that reads, “Closed. We are sorry.” The sign is in what appears to be a black metal frame and has black smudges on the edges.

Just over two years ago, we moved into our temporary location at Town Center 3 in Tumwater to make way for extensive repairs to our historic home at Olympia’s Temple of Justice. The repairs are wrapping up and it is now time for us to close our Town Center 3 doors and head back to the Temple of Justice! This means the library’s physical location will be closed from Tuesday, October 1 until we are scheduled to reopen at the Temple of Justice on Monday, October 28.

We will continue to provide phone and email services for most of our closure. However, we will not be answering phones or responding to voicemails and emails during the week of October 7–11.

This image shows a calendar page for October, highlighting the dates of the library’s closure. The heading is “State Law Library Closure Schedule.” Text below the calendar reads, Library closed to visitors; remote reference available from 10/1 to 10/4 and again from 10/14 to 10/25. Library closed to visitors; no reference services provided from 10/7 to 10/11. Scheduled to open at the Temple of Justice on 10/28!”

Possible Service Delays

During the move, staff access to materials might be briefly affected, and there could be interruptions to phone service too. Reference staff may need additional time to answer requests. If you have urgent legal research needs, please reach out to your nearest county law library or public library.

Returning Books

While we are closed, we ask that you do not return books by mail. Books can be returned to the Washington State Library in their book drop or lobby (6880 Capitol Blvd. SE, Tumwater, 360–704–5200). Otherwise, please plan to return checked out books after we reopen at the Temple of Justice.

We encourage you to check our website, library catalog, Facebook page, or LinkedIn page for the most current updates to our services and closure status. We will also publish updates here during this period of transition. We appreciate your understanding and we look forward to serving you soon at the Temple of Justice! (SC)
