Now an annual event celebrated worldwide, Earth Day (April 22) was first recognized in 1970 and remains an important day for environmental activism and protection around the globe. A number of notable announcements and events have occurred on Earth Day in its nearly 50 year history. The landmark Paris Agreement was signed* on Earth Day 2016, and the first March for Science took place on Earth Day 2017.

In honor of the upcoming Earth Day, the Washington State Law Library is highlighting our extensive collection of online and print materials on environmental law. *On June 1, 2017, United States President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. would cease its participation in the Paris Agreement.
