Discovering My Surroundings

Before I started walking, I didn’t have a destination or route to take in my head. I just walked. This really allowed me to focus on the people and events around me.

As you can see from the route, I really had no clue where I was going. However, I did discover some interesting things during my walk.

10:45: Starting my walk, it is about 60 degrees. I don’t have a plan, so let’s begin walking Fullerton is very busy right now and there are a lot of cars passing by. Four red cars passed by one after another, which is a little odd. There is also a little bit of construction on the other side of the road. The sound essentially clogs the air and blocks other sounds from being heard. As I continue up Fullerton, I see kids walking to or from class. This makes me appreciate not having class on Friday because there are some kids that have to. As I approach the Whole Foods on Sheffield/Fullerton, I take a left which is something I have not even done yet. As I walk, I see the campus bookstore for Lincoln Park. As I continied up Sheffield, there was a really odd car alarm going off. It got pretty annoying because the owner wasn’t interested in turning it off.

10:53: One of the fences of the houses has Christmas lights wrapped around it. Someone is either really lazy, or too excited. A woman with two kids in a stroller go past me and it seemed the kids were lost in their surroundings. Something I was attempting to do

10:55: At Joaquil Park, it is very quiet and peaceful. A small breeze passes by. At this time, there were very few cars passing by. The only audible sounds were from nature, which was pretty peaceful. As I cross the street leaving the park, the people around me seem to know where they are headed. They probably assume the same of me but I am out to learn.

11:01 I look to my right and see a Greek Orthodox Church. I was happy to see this because I wasn’t sure if there was a church of my denomination near me.

The arcetecture of the church is basic but done well. My church has a large gold dome on top of it, so when I saw this church I did not instantly register that this was a greek orthodox church

11:03: Walking onto Diversy Parkway, it is extremely loud. Many cars pass by, tires squeak, and loud trucks rumble down the road.

11:10: A woman walking with her kid in a stroller staring at her phone almost walked into the corner of the wall. I don’t think the kid would have been to happy if that was the result. Down the road, I see a very large Home Depot.

This one is built much different and is much bigger than the ones I am used to seeing.

11:15: As I walk down the sidewalk, I notice another church. It has very nice artwork on the outside

11:18: As I continue down a neighborhood, cars line the sides of the streets. It feels like the community is friendly and comforting. The street was extremely peaceful. Some of the fences had some ivy on them, which made me think of Wrigley Field.

11:23: I notice a dog on the other side of the road. It was a small grey dog with black spots. As I turn to take a picture, I noticed someone and it made me look twice.

11:32: I walk past a park as there are parents playing with their children. One kid is doing lunges with two women. It is good to see kids outside and having fun. I turn right at the next street and as I walk by two women I hear them speaking Polish. I do not speak the language but my hometown has a very large Polish population, so it made me think of home.

11:37: Walking down the street I look to my left to see the front of the building I live in from pretty far away. It was weird being on the opposite side of the buildings that I usually am.

11:42: The temperature is still very neutral. Im not too hot or cold, but I have a sweatshirt on that is making me slightly warmer than I would like. I now notice construction on the road ahead, which is causing more noise and blocking some of the street. I noticed a concerned look on a woman’s face as she attempted to squeeze by the trucks and workers.

11:55: As I continue, I notice a building with two different kinds of brick in it. It reminded me of the trip to Albany Park because a lot of buildings were built like this there. As I continue walking, I see a realator sign but it says Berkshire-Hathaway.

I was confused at first because I associate the company with what it is known for. I assume this is a different Berkshire-Hathaway group.

12:02: Walking down a busy road, I take note of some things. I am the only one on the sidewalk as I look around, but there are 30+ cars passing me at a time. It was a little weird to be a lobe but at the same time have hundreads of people passing by me at the same time.

12:09: I pass a building that has some fine details done in the archetecture. It is pretty simple, but it makes the building look more exquisite. These little details have a major impact on the building’s appearance.

12:12: I see a flower shop and it has some plants on display outside. I had no clue what plant I was looking at, but then I discovered the name.

I had no Idea this was a plant name. I would have never known anything about this plant, but it is pretty interesting to me now because of the name.

12:17: I approach where I began from the opposite side of the sidwalk. Its weird to see what I saw earlier, but from further back. The walk had no specific path, but in the end, it was a walk that one can learn a lot from.
