For my mapping project, I plan to create a map of Chicago’s largest towers including their heights on the map. Some of these tall buildings that are also known as skyscrapers are well-known tourist attractions like the Willis Tower and the John Hancock Building but some of them aren’t as well known like the Aon Center which is the third tallest building in Chicago standing at a huge 1,136 feet. I also plan to rank the buildings according to height on the map in comparison of buildings in Chicago. Along with the rankings I will also add the number of levels the building has such as the Willis Tower has 110 floors. I want to make a map based on this because tall buildings are something that have fascinated me from a ypung age and I vividly remember being so upset that The Sears Tower as it was known at the time was actually not the tallest building in the world. My fascination of skyscrapers is my inspiration of making this map and ranking the buildings according to their height. (181 words)

Written Response: In my opinion, walking is a necessity and a luxury. It is a necessity because if the place you need to get to isn’t reachable with a vehicle or you’re not privileged enough to have a vehicle for transport it is necessary. However, it is also a luxury because many people are forced to live without it. Many times people live in cities with no sidewalks or broken down ones that are very unsafe so they are physically unable to walk and those who have it often don’t appreciate the privilege they have. Malchik does a great job of displaying the threats of walking by bringing up the story of Raquel Nelson and how she got hit by a car, lost her four year old son, and still had to serve time in jail which is the perfec depiction of how walking is being limited by the government. Often times people that live in the city or similarly busy areas are not afforded the privilege of walking like the people in the suburbs are due to factors like limited space, risk of attacks, risk of collision with a vehicle, etc. and at this rate it isn’t getting better anytime soon.
