According to Jacobs, a good steak house is an old building because each street has the old mixed with the new. Also, he says it fits into what the street needs, as a certain business need to yield certain amounts. Being in an older building sometimes means that they have been open for a while and have very good food. There are many examples of good steakhouses in old buildings. One that I know of is Morton’s the Steakhouse. I went here with my family and it is in an older building, and all of the food that we got was very good. Besides this steakhouse, another old but very good place is Gibson’s Steakhouse. It opened in 1989, and my dad has been going there for the last ten years. Having an older steakhouse means that you can rely on good food that has satisfied for years.There are many good steakhouses in old buildings all around Chicago.
One of my favorite blocks in Chicago is in near my moms office in the loop, around LaSalle and Clark.
This building depicts the Greek mythology where Icarus is flying with his father. The artwork is very cool to me, having learned about this story when I was younger. The design isn’t that complex, but the image is still a cool one to have on the side of the building. There is usually Greek influence in placed, whether it be the architecture, statues, or paintings.
As I walk up LaSalle, i see a lot of flowers in holders. There is a variety of colors and smells from the flowers that is very pleasant. As I am standing off to the side, I hear countless people pass behind me. I can hear some people talking on the phone as they pass by. I cannot really make out anything people are saying on the phone, but it seems people on a call are usually in a rush.
Another example of Greek or Roman artwork on display are these two statues near the Chicago board of trade. They are holding wheat and corn to represent exchanges commodity heritage. Both parts of the statues are very interesting. The statues themselves are very interesting, as well as the meaning behind them with the wheat and corn.
Now looking at the street, there are all types of cars that pass by. Chicago is a mix of every single class type, so you are able to see this in the cars as well. A car I see now is a black s-63 amg Mercedes. This is a pretty expensive car, and it is probably someone in the upper class. On the contrary, there is also an old, worn-down Pontiac close to it. These cars are all traveling the same place, but the people in the cars and their stories are all different.
This is a cool sculpture that I saw outside a post office and federal building near LaSalle. The original building was built from 1898–1905. It was later demolished and rebuilt in 1965. This statue sits outside the building which brings attention, as it is a large sculpture in a bright orange color.
No matter where you walk though, there are a number of homeless people. It is a little unnerving see people suffering. but it is essentially unavoidable in the city. It is also hard to not constantly look up and notice just how tall the buildings are. As I look up to the towering buildings, it reminds me that I am in a big city that is very important.
This is the federal reserve building on LaSalle. Talking to my mom about this picture, we both felt that it kind of resembles the White House. The building represents our federal government’s banking system. The building also has a row of flowers outside which looks very nice. The columns on the building also have a very cool pattern on the top which makes the building more interesting. The building is very important for Chicago and the federal government.
As i continued passed, there were two of the exact Ford Escape lined up. I thought this was a little funny because there are so many cars, and the odds that two of the same one end up next to each other is pretty low.
This is a part of LaSalle’s financial row. There are many businesses in these buildings that are important. My mom walks through here everyday, and I really liked the area. There were countless businessmen and women walking up the streets going to work, breakfast, or meetings. It is very obvious that when these people need to get somewhere, their only focus is on themself. They are in a rush and need to be in certain places. It seems that what they do is the exact opposite of my walk. I am out to learn and see things, while their only thought is to get to where they need to be
This is a very rough drawing of the BMO Harris Bank building. My mom worked here for over 25 years, and it brought me back some memories. The outside of the building is the same, but I imagine the inside is different. It was very busy when I walked by, as people lined up and down the sidewalk trying to get somewhere.
