A Day in the Loop

The morning started off rainy, clearing up later in afternoon. I grabbed a coffee as I walked through the quad to the Fullerton stop. It was my first time riding the metro and I was worried that I might have gone the wrong direction. I walked up to the street after reaching the Jackson stop. Entering DePaul’s loop campus I walked through the Barnes and Nobles and downstairs to the classroom. We spent the morning in the classroom learning about the history of the loop and it was not until lunch exited the classroom. I was not hungry so I decided to explore the loop.

Chicago Public Library

During the lunch break one of the more interesting sights was the Chicago Public Library which we learned was built just two years after the Chicago fire. Even though I was just walking around the outside of the building I could still appreciate the large arches and intricate metal work. By that time it was already 12:55 and I only had a few minutes to get back to DePaul’s campus to meet the rest of the class.

Asado Coffee

Our class was then split into three groups and told to meet at the the bean in millennium park at 3:15. Our first stop was at the Asado Coffee shop which is only a short walk from DePaul’s campus. The alleyway used to lead to Pickwick Stable, but is now surrounded by modern buildings.

From Asado Coffee we continued walking until we saw this theatre which has a Hamilton sign and we decided we all needed a picture. Our next stop was going to see the iconic Marshall Fields Clock.

The Marshall Fields clock has been a staple in the community for decades. In hangs on the intersection of State and Washington street. The first clock was installed in 1897 until it was replaced with the current clock in 1907.

After seeing the Marshall Fields clock we continued down state street until we reached the Chicago Theater. Even though we did not enter the theatre I have seen shows there before and it is one of the most beautiful theaters I have seen.

Our group then decided to walk down the river which provided a nice breeze on such a hot day. I took this photo across from the trump tower which allows you to see all of the bridges going over the river. Two of the people in or group were interviewed about Instagram and Snapchat stories. We also saw a photographer taking photos of a couple by the Chicago War memorial.

After leaving the river we headed to Millennium park to meet the rest of the class. We arrived early and decided to walk over the sky bridge. It was here that I took this picture overlooking Monroe street. Our group then headed to the Bean.

While sitting down and waiting for the other groups to show up we witnessed what we thought was a social experiment. It all started when two women ran up to us and asked if we could take there picture with this guy who they said was a movie star. It was not till after that Will realized that they never said the name of the person or the name of the character he played. After meeting up with the rest of the class we did a reflection and all headed our separate ways.
