When my dog wants to go on a walk, he follows me around the house until I put my shoes on, grab the leash and we head out on our adventure. But what would happen if I left the leash at home and I followed him on a walk?

You might be thinking that would be a horrible idea, but it could be an exciting journey. We might eventually make our way back home but who knows how long it would take. There would probably be a lot of chasing going on. He would chase squirrels, I would chase him. This could really get exhausting.

When we go on a walk our plan is almost always to return home. We will take care of some business along the way and if he gets off track, the leash provides me some control to get him refocused and headed in the direction towards our destination.

Walking the dog involves a clearly defined goal. If you have a plan, take care of business and have enough control to keep moving in the right direction most of the time you will accomplish your goals.

If you don’t set goals and you just start “following your dream” you might go an exciting adventure. But who knows how long it will take to chase it down and it could be really exhausting.

You love your dog, you love your dream, but following either one of them around might not get you where you want to go.
