On Saturday July 7th, 2012 gathered over 10,000 Monks in the heart of Bangkok to honour Buddha. The celebrations occurred near the Asoke intersection to commemorate the 2,600th Enlightenment Day of Gautama Buddha. The sage. The Enlightened One.
The date is celebrated every year throughout SE Asia and is promoted to highlight the significance of Buddha’s teachings in Thai culture and modern day society.
Lasting two hours the event ended in an Alms giving ceremony with truckloads of excess offerings left over at its conclusion, unable to be physically carried by the participating Monks.
