Following our winter time walk on Wukang road, summer having arrived in Shanghai since, we’ll take another stroll down our favorite street in Shanghai. Update: Franck’s places are still closed, and it’s not clear if and in what state they will open again. This certainly drastically reduced the numbers of visistors to this street, and can perhaps be seen in enjoying a more quiet version of the street.

Most importantly, the spring and summer in Shanghai are the best time to see the city’s street transform into true “green tunnels”, as the rows of the abundant London planes(or french planes as they are known here since they were mostly planted in the former french concession)on each side of the street will literally merge together.

Enjoy…

A prime example of a ‘green tunnel’ formed by the trees, this is actually Hunan road, which crosses Wukang.
Even with Franck’s places closed, plenty of “tourists” abound…
Those phonebooth are truly an emblem of Shanghai streets, and so are the “carry-on’ bikes on the right…
The Wukang road/middle HuaiHai road crossroad, with Wukang mansion on the left…

A beautiful Shanghai summer street, I disgress for we are now on Fuxing road, yet that part of it that is “so Wukang road”… This picture really shows the various facets of Shanghai life: we have the “kuadi” delivery scooter, the aging Shanghai lady about to cross the street, and what looks like a foreign Bobo determined to ignore the wayward traffic and bike around the city.

Shanghai summer life, again, a collection of pictures not necessarily taken on Wukang road, but all in the neighborhood surrounding it, all of which part of that street’s particular feel…
