On a sunny February day, I walked from Yongfu road down to Huashan road. The area starts at the Shanghai Library metro station — on the northern side of HuaHai road — and runs until the Jiao Tong University campus.

Strolling around you see long queues for delicacies at various local spots: for french pastries at Farine, for coffee at Grains, and for ice cream at WIYF. The area is also home to several consulates: Iran, US, France, Germany, as well as a French kindergarten.

Walking around here you can experience a feeling unique to Shanghai — strolling around on a tree lined street, looking at European style villas that seem to transport you back to the 1930’s, and at the same time finding yourself in the center of perhaps the fastest moving metropolis of our time.
