Taking your first steps into web3 can be overwhelming, with a plethora of wallet choices at your fingertips. In our “Wallet of the Week” series, we put the spotlight on one wallet and share why we think they’re worth checking out.

Seed phrase dependency? Not with Cypherock

Seed phrases have long been a driving force behind much of crypto’s early adoption thanks to their inherently decentralized design. But when it comes to wider web3 adoption, they come with one pretty major roadblock: user experience.

Hacks and losses across the ecosystem over the years have been exhaustingly tied back to a dependency upon seed phrases and their innately high-risk requirement for maintenance, but after years of research & development, the team at Cypherock may have found the solution.

The Cypherock X1 is the world’s first hardware wallet that doesn’t require seed phrase backups. To eliminate seed phrase vulnerabilities, Cypherock uses an algorithm called ‘Shamir Secret Sharing’ to split a user’s private keys into five cryptographic parts, each stored on tamper-proof hardware components: the X1 vault, and four X1 cards.

When a user wants to transact with their wallet, they simply need their X1 vault and just one of their X1 cards. Along with bank-grade encryption and EAL6+ certified secure chips, this allows users to benefit from additional protection against loss and theft.

But, Cypherock X1’s UX innovation doesn’t end with ensuring the vault’s security. Users can actually utilize the X1 as a way to cold store seed phrases for other wallets — like MetaMask, Trezor, and Ledger — and manage their entire crypto portfolio across multiple wallets in a single app — cySync.

With a clear 360 focus on improving web3 security, Cypherock can be a great option for anyone looking for that extra layer of protection over their assets.

What’s next?

A dilemma often discussed across the space is the lack of infrastructure for cryptocurrency inheritance. Along with a new mobile app for the X1 set to launch soon, the team at Cypherock has some pretty exciting plans mapped out for how to combat inheritance roadblocks once and for all.
