Action required! Incoming Wanchain network upgrade!

The Wanchain R&D team have made some improvements to the Secure Multi-Party Computing (MPC) protocol enabling Wanchain’s industry-best cross-chain mechanism. As such, all Storeman node operators will need to upgrade their nodes to version 7.0.1.

The upgrade will be available beginning Monday, May 31st at 08:00 UTC.

What regular users need to do

Nothing, really. Just plan ahead! Wanchain’s cross-chain transactions may be momentarily unavailable as Storeman node operators upgrade their nodes. This interruption should last less than an hour. Please keep an eye on Wanchain’s official Twitter account for up-to-date announcements.

What Storeman node operators need to do

Storeman node operators must upgrade their nodes to version 7.0.1 as soon as possible. Luckily, this is an easy process as the Wanchain team has prepared a simple update script. Storeman node operators can execute the following script after logging into their cloud service node with SSH:

cd ~/osm/
./startStoremanV5.sh

Because this upgrade modifies, amongst other things, the way Storeman nodes communicate, Storeman nodes that fail to upgrade in a timely manner will not be able to perform and verify cross-chain transactions.

Network upgrade highlights

This network upgrade further improves Wanchain’s decentralisation, security and stability.

Decentralisation

Storeman nodes now only need to connect with BootNode when starting up for the first time;
Storeman nodes will now automatically discover their nearest neighbour node.

Security

Storeman nodes now only receive information from their neighbouring nodes. This greatly increases the difficulty and cost for would-be malicious nodes to mount an attack.

Stability

The Storeman node messaging mechanism is changed from p2p to broadcast. This reduces the probability of a message failing to reach its intended target.
