“A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.” — Lao Tzu

A plan that has been almost 2 years in the making is coming to fruition. It started as an idea and now it is becoming a reality.

We’ve been daydreaming. We’ve been saving our money. We’ve been learning (a bit of) Spanish. We’ve been doing research and taking notes. Finally, in November, all of it will culminate in a journey across the Americas.

Year one will be the dirt-bag dream — the van life — composed of minimal living, rock climbing and traveling wherever our hearts take us across North America. In year two, the plan is to head south and backpack through Central and South America in our attempt to see it all.

We’re not married to any trajectory in particular — we’re quite flexible and will go where the going is good. Ultimately, we are going to travel until we run out of the funds we have set aside for this trip.

And so, the preparation begins. The next three months will be comprised of lots of planning — Where will we go first? What will we need? Which van will suit us best? What will fit in the van? What are we going to do with all of our shoes? How will we check Reddit and Facebook on a regular basis?? Should we cancel our Netflix? What about Game of Thrones??? What’s the deal with Jon Snow? So many questions.

This blog will be written by both of us — sometimes together, sometimes separately. It will provide candid accounts of our travels.

Let’s keep things interesting, shall we?
