Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the first issue of Wanderlost weekly newsletter.

(Last week we launched our “pilot episode”. In case you missed it, it’s right here.)

MIDDLE EAST

Ok, this region is a hell of a mess. Let’s try to sort things out a bit.

To start, a simple friendship chart, describing relations among Middle-eastern countries and groups.

Coming up, a more complex map showing the distribution of Sunnis and Shiites.

By the way, why are sunnis and shiites fighting?

In all of this chaos, there are still a few areas in the Middle East that can be considered kinda safe for travelers and expats alike. One of them is Iraqi Kurdistan. Iraqi Kurdistan, for real? Yes! It is beautiful, efficiently patrolled, (relatively) cheap to get to and visa-free for most citizens coming from Western countries. We can’t think of a better destination if you wanna scare your loved ones to death and impress the average backpacker out there.

When it comes to recognizing new States, Lonely Planet always stands on the front line.

All jokes aside, we just discovered the real, ultimate travel guide to the Islamic State! Shish kebab is supposed to be wonderful down there.

VOLARE, OH OH

Two Israeli-arabs were forced to leave a flight departing from Athens, after Jewish passengers protested about their presence.

If you are from Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico or Washington, your driving licence won’t be valid to board a flight anymore.

British aviator Tracey Curtis-Taylor landed in Australia to finish her three-month journey from England in her 1942 Boeing Stearman, a vintage open cockpit plane. 21.000 kms, 23 countries, 50 refuelling stops.

MAPS

Ever dreamed of playing tetris, using countries instead of the usual blocks? Hopefully not, but now it is possible anyway.

PACKED.. — One out of two Italians lives here.

..LIKE SARDINES — And this is where 90% of Icelandic people live.

GLOBEWANKERS

For the backpackers out there, take a look at this snarky guide to hostel guests by No-YoLo. Americans and Aussies with little sense of humour are kindly requested to skip to the next line.

But who wins the prize as the most dreadful creature you could ever stumble upon during your wanderings? Easy, the awe-inspired traveler.

We hope you enjoyed this freshly-baked first issue of our newsletter, see you next week!
