New OSPI Publication Invites You to Ask Questions and Get Answers
Do you have questions about public education in Washington? Are you curious about how the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) supports students, families, and schools? Want to learn more about Washington’s schools through data?
Starting this month, you can ask OSPI your questions directly — and get answers publicly.
OSPI is launching a new publication that invites you to ask questions about OSPI and the agency’s work. Called The Study Session, this publication will answer one question every month on the OSPI Blog.
Below, learn more about how this publication will operate and how you can get your questions answered.
What kinds of questions can I ask?
Questions and answers should be applicable to a wide audience and as long as your question relates to OSPI and the agency’s statewide work in public education, we will consider it.
Some examples of subjects you can ask about include:
- How school funding works
- Information about services available to support students
- Data and data trends
- OSPI’s legislative priorities
- State assessments
- Resources for families to support their students
What questions won’t be answered?
We will not answer questions about a specific school or school district, or questions related to incidents or situations involving a specific student and/or specific school staff. Please direct these questions directly to your school or school district.
We will also not answer questions that contain violent or obscene language, or questions that include any personal attacks, name-calling, harassment, threats, or defamatory statements. All questions should be age-appropriate for all audiences.
How do I submit a question?
Asking a question is easy. Simply visit the Ask OSPI webpage, and select “Study Session” from the “Question Category” drop-down menu.
You will then be prompted to provide the following required information:
- Your full name
- Your email address
- Your county of residence
Failure to provide any of the above information will disqualify your question from consideration.
By submitting your question, you are agreeing to OSPI’s Social Media Terms of Use.
How often can I submit questions?
Our goal is to answer questions from as many Washingtonians as possible. For this reason, we will answer questions from a single Washingtonian no more frequently than once every three months.
What happens after I submit a question?
Once you’ve submitted your question, you will receive an email from the Communication Team confirming our receipt. If we choose to answer your question on The Study Session, we will email you to let you know when the answer will be published.
Please note that questions may not be answered in the order received, and not all questions will be answered.
Who will answer the questions?
The subject matter experts at OSPI will answer questions accurately and with the most up-to-date information.
How and when will answers be published?
Answers to selected questions will be published once a month, at the end of every month. All answers will be published on the OSPI Blog with “Study Session” in the title and will be shared on OSPI’s social media channels.
The first publication of The Study Session is set for the end of August. Be sure to follow OSPI on social media so you don’t miss it!
