OSPI Proposed Student Discipline Rules

OSPI has released proposed rules for revising Washington student discipline laws under Chapter 392–400 of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

These proposed rules reflect significant feedback that OSPI sought from external and internal groups over the past several months, including from the Student Discipline Task Force.

The proposed rules are intended to improve the clarity and readability of the student discipline rules for both school districts and families. Several revisions clarify requirements in law that became effective in 2016 when the Legislature passed House Bill 1541. The revisions also increase opportunities for families to participate in the development of discipline policies and in resolving discipline-related issues.
