Superintendent Reykdal Announces Finalists for National Award
Four educators are finalists for math and science teaching honors
Today, Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal announced that four teachers from Washington were selected as state-level finalists for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).
The state-level finalists are:
Math
Beth Andres teaches Algebra and AP Calculus at Ferndale High School, Ferndale School District
George Christoph teaches Advanced Mathematical Reasoning and Pre-Calculus at River Ridge High School, North Thurston Public Schools
Science
Michele Chamberlain teaches Physical Science and Environmental Science at Lakeridge Middle School, Sumner School District
James Yoos teaches AP Chemistry, Quantitative Chemistry, and Introduction to Sports Medicine/Applied Anatomy and Physiology at Bellingham High School, Bellingham Public Schools
The finalists were selected during the summer by a statewide selection committee comprised of content area experts and award-winning teachers.
“Each and every one of us has been impacted by an educator in our lifetime,” said State Superintendent Chris Reykdal. “It’s teachers like Beth, George, Michele, and James that lead by exceptional example and hold Washington’s teachers to the highest possible standard. We’re incredibly proud to send these four innovative teachers on to the national program as Washington’s state finalists.”
The national PAEMST program typically announces national award recipients in the spring. State-level finalists are recognized by regional and state math and science associations and invited to several annual state events for award winning educators.
