Superintendent Reykdal Welcomes Wa He Lut Indian School into State-Tribal Compact

Wa He Lut Indian School is now one of five Washington State-Tribal Compact Schools

Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal signed a State-Tribal Compact with Wa He Lut Indian School on July 25, 2017. The school, located in Olympia, enrolls 140 students.

The state-tribal compacts affirm Washington’s commitment to the government-to-government relationship between the state and tribes by empowering tribes to take greater responsibility for improving the educational outcomes of tribal students.

“We are proud to include Wa He Lut Indian School in our state’s offering of State-Tribal Compact Schools,” said Superintendent Reykdal. “Wa He Lut is one of our state’s unique examples of an educational environment that establishes high expectations of all students and educators.”

Wa He Lut joins four other State-Tribal Compact Schools. For more information about these schools, visit the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction’s Office of Native Education website.
