Why is anyone anti-drone?

Can someone explain to me why it’s not hypocritical to simultaneously support the troops and condemn drone warfare? If you think our military serves a purpose and you honor troops, why would you want more of them to die on the battlefield?

Personally, I think spending trillions to raise the standard of living around the world would do more to prevent terrorism than killing people. But that has nothing to do with drones, it has to do with the fundamental goals of the military. Most arguments against drone strikes that I’ve heard don’t come from people who oppose dropping bombs from human-piloted airplanes. It seems to me that supporting the military without supporting drone warfare is akin to supporting firefighters but not supporting automatic sprinkler systems. Any technology that takes humans out of dangerous situations should be considered a good thing.

I realize there’s a faction that solely argues against drone strikes on American citizens. But again, what do drones have to do with it? If you don’t believe in the death penalty without due process, say that. Don’t blame technology.

(some counter-points to traditional anti-drone arguments)
