There have been three significant expansions, each with new story missions, new features, new places to explore…

How Do I Start?

There are six races to choose from, each one is distinct from the others, with its own set of stats, powers, and appearance! On Hydaelyn, live a brand-new story and save the Eorzea continent from a massive tragedy brought on by a wicked and ancient creature known as Bahamut. You must save this world of the Darkness as a blessed of the Mothercrystal, the wellspring of all life.

As the game-plot very slowly unravels it becomes clear that the development team has put in a lot of time and effort to weave the story as meticulously and imaginatively as conceivable. This results in a stunningly rich experience that blends all of the classic characteristics of older Final Fantasy games with a new, engrossing plot centered on a particular character.

Do I Sense A Plot Twist?

The Final Fantasy XIV storyline leads you to Norvrandt, a realm engulfed in light and overtaken by light-bred monsters. The few individuals who have survived have come together to dwell in the Crystal Tower strong-hold and its heavily protected metropolis, the Crystarium.

Others reside in or beneath Eulmore, a stunningly magnificent tower palace teeming with wealthy nobles and noble pretenders hedonistically indulging as they await the end of civilization. You’ve been summoned from your own realm to help the dying land by eliminating the light and taking on the role of the Warrior of Darkness.

OK cool! So, What Are They Saying About Final Fantasy XIV?

“I would say that Final Fantasy XIV is one of the better MMORPG’s out there at this current moment. It is certainly one of the biggest out there currently. The game has a fantastic aesthetic, great character customization, top notch boss/dungeon design, and a lively social aspect. However the world itself isn’t as rich as a game like WoW and the combat is much slower with a two second global cool-down.

I got hooked on this game until I reached level cap on all the jobs I liked. After that I found myself just hanging around in game rather than actually doing anything. I still occasionally play however the end game content is nothing compared to something like WoW.

I don’t typically like MMO’s and the only ones that I have played and enjoyed were FFXIV, WoW, Guildwars 2, and Dungeon & Fighter. While the game has its faults it is among the best MMOs out on the market right now.”

“…There’s more to Final Fantasy XIV beyond dungeon exploration, though, and that’s a good thing…”

“…There’s more to Final Fantasy XIV beyond dungeon exploration, though, and that’s a good thing, since grinding to attain the proper level for boss X or quest Y can become tiresome, especially if you’re playing solo through story quests and events. You aren’t relegated to slashing through bunnies and worms like in the olden days of Final Fantasy XI, but you need patience and a party to quest with if you want to quickly rise through the ranks…”

“…On the whole, then (Final Fantasy XIV online) offers a solid, complete MMO experience that, while not exactly revolutionary in many ways, is extremely addictive, satisfying and enjoyable to play — and certainly a lot less clunky, unintuitive and discouragingly difficult as Final Fantasy XI was.”

- Pete Davidson, Primary Reviewer 4 October 2013 (USGamer.net)

What Are Some Of The Cool, New Features in Final Fantasy XIV?

· A new job system has been introduced, several unique roles have been established including: Paladin, Monk, Dragoon, Black Mage, White Mage just to name a few.

· Levequests and raids, Battle monsters in FF XIV’s Levequests and Instanced Raids.

· It has also been announced that Estinien Wyrmblood will be added to the list of allies

· The cap has increased from 80 to 90!

In Conclusion…

Six patches (A Realm Reborn, A Realm Awoken, Through The Maelstrom, Defenders Of Eorzea, Dreams Of Ice, and Before The Fall) have been developed by Square Enix as well as four expansions (Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbrings and the newest expansion Endwalker just last year) which add evolving scenarios, characters and scenes.

These also allow a vast number of PvP interface. Those new to the Final Fantasy franchise may struggle to adapt to the vast array of characters, scenarios and so forth due to the complexity of the game. People who have played Final Fantasy XIV are always ready to praise the game’s plot and expansions whenever the subject is brought up. The plot of Final Fantasy 14 is still the best incentive to play.

Much of the story is told in dramatic cutscenes, just as in a decent single-player RPG, and the mature themes range from loss to redemption. These aspects of the game are usually reserved for the later expansions and not so much for the main game, but the base game is crucial in laying the groundwork for the rest of the plot. Fans appear to concur with critics that the plot is excellent.
