Born to Sell.

College-dropout turned sports mogul Michael Rubin has built an empire through entrepreneurship. From selling skis out of his parents’ basement at the age of 12 to starting the sports apparel juggernaut Fanatics and becoming one of the youngest billionaires in the United States, the Philadelphia native has morphed into one of the prominent figures in the world of sports. Now, the co-owner of his hometown 76ers and the New Jersey Devils is focusing his energies on a cause that transcends the sporting landscape: criminal justice reform. Spurred by the incarceration of his friend, musician and activist Meek Mill, in 2017, Rubin has brought together leaders from sports, entertainment and business to launch REFORM, a non-profit organization dedicated to fundamentally changing state probation and parole laws around the country. Correspondent David Scott talks to Rubin, who discusses his career, friendship with Mill and social activism.

Each year, fans from across the world converge in the small town of Kitzbuhel, Austria to witness the Hahnenkamm downhill, a two-mile long race that is widely considered the most ambitious test in all of skiing. And each winter the world’s best return in pursuit of skiing glory. “If you want to be a legend in downhill skiing, you have to win Kitzbühel,” said American racer Bryce Bennett. The American Dream.

Elisa Diaz and her six-year-old son, Manny Diaz, fled communist Cuba in 1961 in search of freedom and prosperity, arriving in Miami with little to their name, Elisa’s husband remained behind as a prisoner of the Fidel Castro regime. Working tirelessly to create opportunity for her family, she climbed out of poverty by cleaning hotel rooms. In 2001, her eldest son was elected mayor of Miami, where he would serve two terms. Seventeen years later, her grandson, Manny Diaz Jr., became the first Cuban-American head football coach at the University of Miami. Correspondent Andrea Kremer sits down with the newly appointed Hurricanes head coach and grandson of Cuban exiles to hear his remarkable family story.

David Feherty.

Bryant Gumbel revisits one of the most beloved and eccentric broadcasters in all of sports: David Feherty, who detailed his long battle with addiction and mental health in his first meeting with REAL SPORTS. Today, the golf broadcaster is coping with the loss of his eldest son, Shey, who died from an overdose, which derailed Feherty’s own sobriety and forced him to confront his own demons once again. Gumbel travels to visit Feherty ahead of his stand-up comedy show to discuss how the unspeakable tragedy fits in with the broader story of his life.
