Hello! Warning: Graphic Content is still on a break — at this point, the most tortured one since Ross and Rachel in Friends.
But as a reward for sticking with us/forgetting to unsubscribe, I’ve written another bumper Data Policy Digest for Connected by Data. (There’s also this one from July.) Think of it as W:GC (Warning: Graphic Content, rather than Welwyn Garden City) without the dataviz.
A few other things since last time (where has the ‘summer’ gone?!):
- I finally published my 2022 year note…
- The Data Bites juggernaut rolls on — details of our next, on Wednesday 13 September, will appear soon. In the meantime, we’re writing a short report based on our justice specials, and would welcome some thoughts on our typology about how data is used for research
- I also moaned about Take Out The Trash Day for IfG — with a blogpost and a Twitter Space — shortly before hitting my ten year anniversary
- I blogged about the ODI’s submission to the AI White Paper consultation, and wrote up our members’ roundtable that helped inform it
- I’ll be at Conservative and Labour party conferences in a few weeks time with the IfG, chairing a public event and taking part in a private roundtable on AI at each, and Connected by Data will have an event at Labour conference on the Monday evening (details to follow).
- I ran a session with Owen Boswarva at Open Data Camp, on open data manifesto pledges and actions in the first 100 days of a new government we’d like to see.
- I cropped up in a Civil Service World piece, saying that knowledge and information management in government should really underpin everything else.
- The ministerial resignations chart got a shout-out from Andy Cotgreave in his thread of favourite ‘index charts’
- This year’s Orwell Youth Prize winners have been announced — and the Orwell Youth Fellows have unearthed a digital dystopian archive
- And… you can watch the main works from my choir’s summer concert — Vierne’s Messe Solenelle and Rutter’s Gloria — on the New Tottenham Singers’ YouTube channel. Come and give us a go in September — we have three free rehearsals on 5, 12 and 19 September.
Have a great weekend
Gavin
