What’s new in the Atmos Horizon update
Over two years in the making
We’re glad to see you here!
Over two years have passed since we brought Project Atmos to the world, and ever since then, we’ve been working to completely overhaul the platform from the ground up. From the creation of our new Horizon design language to optimizations that make Atmos over 10 times faster, we want to make sure it’s something that can stand out, and stand apart. The new Atmos is designed to be the next-generation social media platform for those who are looking for something new yet familiar, safe yet effective, private yet connected, and we were able to do just that, all thanks to the much anticipated Atmos Horizon update, and the wonderful team of passionate developers working to bring this dream into reality.
With this update, we’ve created an all-new design language called Horizon, which is based around establishing a sense of containment, modularity, and flexibility. Thanks to lightly shaded borders, you can now visually see where something ends and another begins. In conjunction with that, we can simulate a sense of depth in 2D space by using borders to define interactable items, shades of white and grey to signal rollovers and clicks, and accent colors to emphasize choices in most of our UI.
The Horizon update not only changes how Atmos looks, but how it feels as well. With this new update, you can now set or change your preferred accent color in Settings, which will reflect throughout the entire platform. Additionally, with the introduction of a completely reimagined dark mode, you can switch to it at any time from there as well, with the interface slowly turning down the lights to make everything just a touch more comfortable.
We’re also introducing communities, allowing users to be able to create communities of any size for whatever they desire, from hobbies and topics to ones built just for hanging out. They now also contain categories, allowing administrators to organize the content which is posted in their community.
With collections, users can organize their posts to specific collections, allowing other users to quickly view similar posts of the same type, or even enable them to follow a specific collection, allowing posts from that collection to show up in the user’s home feed.
Behind the scenes, we’ve made some serious changes to Atmos which makes it run over 10 times faster than Project Atmos in some scenarios. We’ve also managed to cut down the response time when performing some actions. Using modern web technologies, we‘ve also reduced the number of refreshes when navigating and using the platform, and mobile users can utilize progressive-web-apps for easy access to Atmos from their device’s home screen. Additionally, users can now upload multiple images in one post.
And that’s not all
We’ve also redesigned and rethought several experiences throughout our platform, such as when you’re resharing a post or creating a comment while in the feed. We’ve also made some major changes to groups, formerly known as circles. With the introduction of icons from Boxicons, it’s now easier than ever to identify groups, collections, and community categories.
With the Horizon update, and with the help of future updates to come, we’ll be constantly improving the user experience of Atmos, as well as the security and design when the time comes.
